But~, even when you're not drinkin' ya tell me I shouldn't sell myself short and yer lettin' me use an employee discount, so I can't help but think so~. Sort of like a sour candy with a sweet inside.
I guess jawbreakers are kinda fun if y'want a candy that lasts a while... And they're sorta a mouthful, but that ain't too bad. They fill ya up pretty well too. I like to have 'em on jobs so I don't have t'eat anything.
Nn, I know that! I ain't gonna make a twig like you hold heavy stuff!
[It doesn't seem like it, but he does have a surprising amount of strength... doing part-time jobs on campus helps with muscle, not to mention the dancer stamina he gets from being an idol.]
I'm sure it's this way... So don't worry about it~.
[Good boy!! Listen to Mika-nii, who will definitely be leading... alleyways all look the same, but this path has a few hole in the wall shops..? They're the shady kind.]
Mm... I haven't eaten yet, but even if these are Valkyrie's aesthetic, I don't know if there's one of these that're safe to eat at...
[ drawing the line at mika-nii..! senpai is all you're getting, sir. hmph hmph.
but ah, nisaka's Dubious look only continues as they pass a few of those shops... some of them seem to be selling some things of the questionable variety. ]
I don't know if you really want to be eating something from an alley...
[ there are some shops that have some people lingering about outside, eyeing both boys not all that kindly. quietly, nisaka shifts a little closer to mika, placing himself in between them, their bags rustling. ]
They're usually not that well-known, so they're good places for people like me... Naru-chan and I have something like that we go to together too.
[Mika doesn't like their looks either and keeps his eyes firmly to the ground ahead, head ducking slightly. Small, small... Quiet, quiet.]
But I don't think this is the sort of place Oshi-san'd like, either..~ It's got the same sorta people that're in the underground live area.
[Which Mika is used to, disorder and drunks, but that doesn't mean he likes it. The alleyway feels a lot tighter than it is as they continue, and it seems they're getting more into the city than out to where their destination actually is.]
Shh, [ nisaka whispers under his breath, watching as some of the people take more of an interest to them than he would have liked. as the path gets narrower and narrower, he's starting to feel a little less sure of this route. ]
Maybe we should head back the other way...
[ he stops walking, frowning as a man dislodges himself from a doorway to approach them. ]
[Caught--! Mika hunches closer to Nisaka, shuffling a bag further up his arm to take the other's sleeve tightly. He tries to keep his voice light, but it is exactly these kinds of guys that put Mika on edge about the in the first place.]
Just... Just took a wrong turn, maybe~. We were just leavin'~.
[So he's gonna... tug Nisaka's sleeve and try to do just that...]
[ nisaka doesn't add anything to that, his expression carefully closed off. the man smiles like some of the older high school boys who would take to cornering him outside of school, all because he happened to catch the eye of their girlfriends — or so they say. at mika's urging, he turns on his heel and begins to follow the other back out, but a hand lands on his shoulder, spinning him back around. ]
What's the matter, kids? Our stuff isn't good enough for you?
[ nisaka doesn't even look over the guy's shoulder to doublecheck what "stuff" he could be referring to. he knows from their brief debriefing of the place that things are a little looser here than he's used to, and frankly he wants to keep his eyes on the man. ]
We just came from a big shopping haul, [ he explains patiently, gesturing to his hands full of bags. ] We couldn't afford anything anyway.
[When Nisaka's spun Mika half-turns with him, grip tightening in-- fear? annoyance? some mix of the two, though the first wins out as he shifts closer to the slightly taller boy. Hiding ever so slightly.]
W-We're flat broke now! An' it ain't good to, um, take handouts... when ya don't deserve 'em...
[He is impressed at Nisaka's calmness, honestly. How brave, how admirable.
Another young man calls from the side,]
Kids get handouts all the time, so don't complain! Come on, you're really hurting our feelings here, step in and take a look around.
[ it's not much that nisaka has on mika, but he attempts to utilize those two measly centimeters to his advantage in the subtle shift of his body, trying to stand more in the way between the man from the alley and mika himself.
his kneejerk reaction here is to say something smart, something stupid — but given that he isn't exactly alone in this situation, his usual level of caring about the escalation of a situation has risen considerably. ]
If it's credits you want, I can pay you another time. Right now we really need to be heading back. These bags aren't exactly light.

utterly deadpan, ]
What are you saying? I don't seem friendly?

[Obviously.]

If I'm going go be compared to a candy, I think I'd rather be a jawbreaker.

[That's what that means, right.]

I'm hard to swallow.

What changed yer mind, Nisa-kun?
no subject
...Nothing. I guess I don't have much of a sweet tooth.
no subject
Maybe yer like a durian then..? Not a lot of people can stand it, but there's others that think it's got a nice smell an' taste~.
no subject
An acquired taste... Sounds right, I guess.
[ oh, so they'd been walking through the alleyways again, but now nisaka is a little lost again. ]
Do we take a left here or...?
no subject
oh
um
Hold on, he's spinning around and staring back the way they came, stepping backwards as if literally retracing their steps and pausing.]
... Eheheh~.
[the sound of someone who has not a single idea.]
I'm sure it'll work out~. Let's go straight an' see what happens!
[note: the correct answer is not straight.]
no subject
anyway. nisaka looks Dubious, but mika's been pretty good with directions up until then so he doesn't really have any reason to doubt the other boy.
apart from gut instinct, that is. ]
Alright... Just remember you're the one with heavier bags here.
[ if anyone's going to suffer from any misdirection, it's you, bud. ]

Hey, kids. What brings you down this way?
